En Route to John C. Campbell Folk School

If you have been following our trip on Twitter (@brushandbasket), then you already have heard some of this. Just pretend you didn’t see it before.

We arrived at the beautiful John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC this afternoon. And it proved to be an interesting trip down here:

We drove by two Civil War reenactments in West Virginia.

We saved a small-sized deer from being hit on the highway.

Along I81 Eric saw a stripper (“alleged”) in her underwear running into an Adult Entertainment Facility. (I did not see her because I was on my laptop and Eric did not alert me until after the fact).

Eric just stopped short of a little bunny hopping across the road on our way to the hotel.

I had to take a picture of this. Many people leave bumper stickers of losing candidates on their vehicle for some time. But come on… Don’t you think you would’ve removed Edwards’ sticker long ago??? I’m just saying…

A motorcycle accident occured minutes in front of us. I wish I did not look at the scene. It was fatal. I bothered me for the rest of the day. Eric told me not to look. I did not listen.

I went for an evening walk around the hotel and I saved a dog from running away to the nearby highway (both owners were running down the parking lot screaming). I simply stooped down, whistled and the cute and scruffy terrier with a red bandana came running straight for me. Dogs always love new people to sniff!

On our route, we drove through a corridor of trees on I81 somewhere between Lexington and Roanoke Virginia with millions of Cicada bugs otherwise known as the “17 year locusts” buzzing for at least 3 or 4 miles. It was very peculiar.

So this week we will be at John C. Campbell Folk School. No dogs allowed so Chance is back at our house being babysat by my mom while she “house sits” for us. I hope to have a lot of pictures of the goings on here in Brasstown all week. So check back!
