Writing a Blog 101

We have been away a lot over the last two months. Eric had workshops in Michigan, Georgia and Connecticut. We finally arrived back home tonight. It’s one of our most happiest times… when we come home.

However, in the meantime, I have neglected this meager blog. And everyone knows that the most basic rule of having a successful blog is to keep posting… regularly.

I’m told by my provider’s “statistics” that I have an above-average following and readership. But in the last few weeks, it has plummeted from my lack of attention. It’s not from a void of things to write about — I currently store probably over 50 posts that I have already written but filed in a folder simply called “Needs Editing.” To a procrastinator like myself, naming a folder with that title almost certainly guarantees that I will avoid it like a fast-moving plague.

Nonetheless, after an enlightened conversation with my brother while I stayed at his house up in New Hampshire last week, I’m thinking about posting a “goals” page to keep me accountable. We were talking about my blog and lack of attention and he mentioned another blogger’s strategy (a financial one that he follows) of creating a separate page/tab on his blog with a list of his goals, especially with his blog. I thought that would be a great idea for me. So I hope to have something uploaded very soon.

So, after tonight’s blog, I intend on being more diligent — and to not skip out on my regular stories such as the Five Questions and the Saturday Night Art Walk. And to have at least two more during the week. And to also post more renovation projects since those seem to be the most popular. If I told you how many people check out my post on our decoupage countertops every day you wouldn’t believe me.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and for those who travelled, you made it home safely and are just as happy as we are tonight after pulling into our driveway and walking into our eclectic home here in Tennessee.
