I Can’t Pick On Him Now…

On the front page of our Fantasy Football League, Mr. Basketmaker posted this:

He also put a tiny note inside the 11th box of our jointly-hand-made Advent Calendar,”We are going to a screening of Downton Abbey.”

Yes, this special Season 6 screener was on a Sunday and Eric accompanied me to the newly renovated Park Theater in our hometown and sat through an episode of a series he has never watched.

Yes, that must be love.

And Yes, I certainly cannot pick on him now… well, at least for the rest of this year (thank gosh the new year starts in a couple weeks…)

It was a very nice surprise and I know Eric liked going as well (even though he won’t admit it).

The Park Theater in our town was recently renovated after sitting empty and in disrepair for quite a long time.

Below is an old photo from the McMinnville Historical Museum (courtesy of Jesse James — yes, that’s his name)…

We have been wanting to see the newly-renovated theater for awhile now and it looked fantastic! And it was extra special to see so many people dressed in the 1920’s period, as suggested to do on our tickets (we opted not to dress as such).

I elect the woman to the right, in peach and beige, dressed like the understated “Lady Edith” as the ‘best-dressed.’

It was a great afternoon that led to a nice dinner afterwards…where we met an 86-year-old father and his 49-year-old son out on their bi-weekly “dinner night.”  Thanks Mr. Basketmaker!!

And congratulations for making it to the Playoffs. Glad the Patriots were on Sunday Night since you probably would have been torn on what to do! 🙂

    1. Hey Tracey- Started watching Fargo. You’re right great show. Little more my speed than Downton, although I love period pieces.

  1. What a wonderful surprise. Definite good husband points. I am not sure who gets the best lines, but the dowager Lady Crawley would have to be up there too.

  2. I have no idea what I was watching but I had fun. I did like the red-headed lady server in the kitchen, she was very funny.

    1. The red-headed lady is Mrs. Patmore. Yes, she is pretty funny. That’s why I got hooked. There’s lots of hilarious lines and characters on Downton Abbey.

  3. Yep, I would agree, Mr.Basketmaker is to be commended on his surprise for you. The screening looked like a really fun afternoon and in a beautiful, period style renovation. Looks pretty cool. He is definitely a keeper. 😊

      1. Being a keeper in fantasy terms is a pretty big deal and quite an honor. I’d keep you too. A special screening to downton abbey on a football Sunday when you were making a very rare appearance in the playoffs?? Wow, that must have racked up major points in all those fantasy husband leagues out there!!

        1. Tripp, I tried once to check my scores on phone. Way too dark and stuffy in there if you know what I mean. But Lynne gave me the look, the don’t do it look.
