Our Quote of The Year

So Mr. Basketmaker has — actually more like “had”— this little, metal Remington Typewriter pencil sharpener that I swiftly swiped.

Isn’t it cute? But as you can see, it needed some major cleaning up and basic tender-loving-care that only I could provide. So I scrubbed it up and gave it a good oiling. You know how hard it was to get in between all those little buttons? Well, it was hard. (Note, the picture above was taken after I finished removing all the years of “guck” in between those buttons. Wish I took a “before” pic.)

And then I had a brilliant idea of inserting a tiny little piece of paper with a quote on it (I get lots of these little ideas such as this in order to procrastinate even more when I have several deadlines).

There’s a portion of a quote that I have written in several spots in my studio that inspires me to get off my lazy butt. The long version of this quote is:

“Don’t die with your music still inside you. Listen to your intuitive inner voice and find what passion stirs your soul. Listen to that inner voice, and don’t get to the end of your life and say, ‘What if my whole life has been wrong?”

This quote was made famous by Dr. Wayne Dyer and it’s sort of a combination from the teachings of Lao Tzu with the last line being drawn from the dying words of Ivan Illyich in Leo Tolstoy’s “The Death of Ivan Ilyich.”

The quote I wrote in my studio is shortened and I replaced “music” with a few other words that was more in sync with my current life….

Then I thought it would be really cute to set the little silver dog I received as a gift many years ago next to the typewriter as if he was the one typing the message.

I then sampled a few other quote variations and decided to show Mr. Basketmaker and let him decide on which tiny little message I would slip into the typewriter.

He ended up not liking any of the quotes I presented. His exact words were:

“All those are too heavy to be written by a dog.”

So I said, “You come up with a quote then.”

Which he did in about 30 seconds.

Below, is our final quote. Leave it up to Eric to simplify and put everything into perspective…
