We are finally back home from Chicago and Lansing, Michigan. The Association of Michigan Basketmakers Convention was lots of fun. And I have pictures that I hope to post over the weekend. If I finish all the unpacking, doing laundry and repacking all the same clothes for Monday, when we leave for Eric’s next workshop in Atlanta. A basketmaker’s-wife’s job is never done (was that grammatically correct?)
Sooooo, a small post today bragging about Eric whose exhibit basket, Morning Song, won two awards: Best Art Piece and a Viewer’s Choice Award for professional basketmaker category at the AMB’s Convention! Yah! I have to announce these things because if you talk to Eric, you would never know this. If you asked him if he submitted his basket he would only say “yes” and that’s it. Nothing else. He’s not a good self-promoter. Me? I’m shameless.
Continuing with my “shamelessness,” I wanted to add one of the judge’s notes that was left inside the basket that I was so happy to read aloud to Eric: Rim perfectly applied… Golden color breathtaking… light plays on piece like tapestry. I couldn’t have described it better myself! Thank you so much AMB!
Congratulations to Eric, and thanks for the wonderful picture. Any chance I could get a large, high resolution copy to use as my computer desktop? I’d love to have it as my desktop background.
Thanks Hugh. I’ll see what I can do! And thanks for reading!
Lynne, where did the name”Morning Song” come from?
From John C. Campbell of course! For months, we were thinking of names for this basket. And while at John C. Campbell, I would do a little marching-type-dance on the trail to breakfast singing “morning song morning song how we love morning song”… It would make Eric laugh. So when we returned home, when I let the dog out, I go through his workshop and I would march singing “morning song morning song how we miss our morning song”… and shortly after that, I was looking at his basket saying it looked like morning sunshine and then “click” – Morning Song!
congratulations! I can’t wait to see it in person…hope it makes it to NCBA so i can!
Yes, I do believe he will be taking it to North Carolina. See you there!
Amazing basket… truly amazing!!! Congratulations Eric.
Thanks Miss Susan!
Congratulations Eric (and Lynne)! What a great team: Eric does his wonderful art and you promote it! The basket is incredible, the golden tones, like butter!!
Thanks Sharon!!! I like that description… butter!
The basket is gorgeous! So is he going to wear the necklace? Lol
I know… another year of wearing a necklace. It will, again, go to his mom. She will wear it.
Joanne, there is a photo of me wearing the necklace. I’m sure it will be on the AMB website and newlstter at so point.
I am glad you are there, to keep us informed as to what is happening with my wonderful friend. It was so good to see you and get to know how warm you are, and you give me great hugs too. I think we will be lasting friends also Lynne, You two are a great team. Thanks
Hi Marty! Yes, it was so good to see you! And I just got my haircut today and only took two-inches off. Eric told me that you said you liked my hair and I shouldn’t cut it. I didn’t know how concerned he was about my upcoming hair appointment! I should threaten to cut it short more often!
It was great to see you Marty, you have grown on me like a fungus. A good fungus,is there is such a thing.
