Basketmaking Requires Paperwork, And Lots of It.

basketry_artist_paperworkPoor Mr. Basketmaker. He is heavy into his least favorite thing about his business: sorting through all his paperwork — class proposals, correspondence, paying bills, you name it. He doesn’t like it.

And I cannot help him since I’m a little overloaded with my freelance work at the moment before the 4th of July holiday.

And I also feel a little bad that he’s doing all this in his makeshift office. His temporary office. The space where he set up his ‘business operations’ is in the area where my permanent office will be, which is in the old farmhouse.

I won’t move in there until we renovate the house. So my office is set up in our temporary living quarters which will eventually be his workshop.

Confused? Well, me too.

So here’s his pseudo-desk in his pseudo-office with his pseudo-bookshelves. And look at that blue metal folding chair he has to sit on.

He had a nice office chair. But it happened to be one of the last things that was to go into the moving truck. Along with our bikes, my old trunk, all our Christmas decorations, etc. And all of those ended up not making it. So they went to my parent’s home for temporary storage.

But when my Dad saw Eric’s chair and then sat in it, he asked “Hey, Eric. Can I have this chair?”

What could Mr. Basketmaker respond with? There’s only one appropriate answer to give your father-in-law: “Why sure! You can have it.” So my dad is loving his new chair and Eric is not loving his new chair so much.

But that’s okay. That’s what frugal and innovative wives are for. To scour the thrift stores and come across a perfect chair that won’t break the budget. And one that will help Mr. Basketmaker be a little more comfortable when he’s doing all that paperwork that comes with running a basketmaking business.

  1. Considering it’s Eric’s temporary office it is extremely neat! Nice to see that he uses his baskets, has his water to stay hydrated and paper towels for clean up. I’m impressed! I made my Cottage Organizer at NCBA this past March and put it to use immediately on my desk when I returned home. Best thing I’ve done for my desk in years !
