I’ve talked a few times about this cow, who I named Betty-Sue (after Mr. Basketmaker’s past two girlfriends) who wanders on her own in the field across the street from our home. We don’t know where she lives and we find it peculiar that she’s never with the other cows out in the distance, just past the small hill.
Well, we woke up to Betty-Sue right outside our bedroom window! During the early morning she crossed the street, made her way through the field alongside our property, on over behind our house and into a section of our backyard which forms a little courtyard between the workshop building and the farmhouse. When we saw her, she was quietly eating grass, next to the little barn under our old crab apple tree.
I was so surprised and quickly running for the door, I mistakenly chose my phone to take this quick pic over our good camera! So it’s not very clear.
She stared at me for a minute and then I slowly inched my way closer. However, after a few steps I must’ve been too close for her comfort and she started to trot off to the backyard and around the house, heading back towards the street. (Sigh.) When she comes back, I will be sure to get a better picture of our neighbor-cow, Betty-Sue.
I’m wondering… Is this where the phrase “the grass is always greener on the other side” comes from? A cow, who makes the effort to leave their chomping grounds, cross the street and onto another’s property because the grass seems better to eat?
After all that early morning excitement, Mr. Basketmaker and I went inside and started back to work – me at my desk in my studio and Eric creating materials out in his workshop. Just an ordinary day out here in the Tennessee country!
I think you could do a whole bunch of posts on the life of betty-sue! LOL.
