Labor Day was not a day off for us. While I was working on creating a new online store page for Mr. Basketmaker’s website, he was busy in his workshop, creating a new basket design.
I love this above photo since I’m a gal who loves tools! And his old Buffalo Drill Press, from probably back in the 60’s, has to be my favorite. I love the color, the vintage design, the shapes…. everything! But he constantly reminds me that it’s a tool! And you don’t talk about design aesthetics about a tool. But I must disagree Mr. Basketmaker. I think your drill press is beautiful. Even if it didn’t work at all, I would not want you to dispose of it.
So here’s some pics of his new basket throughout the beginning stages. It starts with his base already created, the uprights in and a couple rows weaved.
Here, he’s using a wood “tool” he created to make the circular “twists” in his new pattern.
Almost half-way done…
After he “baked” the basket a bit, then comes the careful packing, with .
Now the fun part… he’s designing and playing around with different handle options.
This is where he left off today. Will post the finished product soon!
Hmmm… don’t know about a handle, but I envision a pagoda lid with a finial?
Oooh, that sounds neat. He could use his new turning station that he built a few weeks ago in his workshop. But I think he finally decided on a handle design for it.
OK… this is just beautiful and I want a kit!!!! So put one together for me and send me a bill… pretty please!!!!!
Sorry Anette. I don’t think this will ever make it “kit form!” It’s an exhibit basket. But you never know!
Exquisite. Objet d’ art !! not just a new basket
Carry on Mr Artist
Thanks for the comments Miss Patti D. and Aunt Marjie!!
Awesome!
Exquisite! Intricate and amazing both in design and craftsmanship! And I agree with you, Lynne…..that Buffalo drill press is a ‘thing’ of beauty! Anxiously awaiting the finished product.
Thank you Andi! Glad someone else out there things the drill press is a ‘beauty’!! (but don’t tell Mr. Basketmaker…! LOL)
This is very beautiful!!! Can’t wait to see more.
Why thank you kindly Miss Susan! I will be sure to get some snaps of the final basket!
