Myth: Heart Shapes Bring Love?

A good friend of mine texted me this morning about yesterday’s blog and something she collects that is “heart-shaped.” And it sparked a memory of mine…

Not too long ago, I lived in Maine. And was lucky to meet my friend Heather who lived on the street behind my antique store. She couldn’t understand why I was still single. So she dragged me to a small little shop in town that specialized in, well let’s say, all kinds of spiritual things.

When we walked in the door (with her pulling me in) the owner said “how can I help you” and Heather said “she needs some sort of love potion.”

The only thing I could say was “Yes, she’s right. I do need some kind of spell cast to bring me love.”

That she could not do. But she asked me how many heart-shaped things do I surround myself with. And I instantly said “None. I don’t like anything heart-shaped.” And she softly replied, “Well, that’s your problem.”

I ended up buying a candle. Nothing that would bring love but I thought it smelled nice.

Some time after that, Heather brought me a little gift. And she said I have to wear it at all times. And that she looked very hard for quite awhile to find something I would actually wear…

It was a multi-wrapped leather bracelet with heart shaped padlocks. Now that I would definitely wear! And I did…

Now I know you’re thinking, did it work?

Well, I had a couple dates after that, but nothing serious. Then Heather moved to Alabama and I moved to New Hampshire and shortly thereafter, I met Eric. And he remembers this bracelet.

So, you be the judge. You think it worked?
