Several people have asked me to send them pictures of the painting I created for Eric’s 50th Birthday last month. So tonight, I will show you that painting.
What I’m drinking: Valpolicella (another word for Italian Red Table Wine. Now if there was the word “Superiore” after ‘Valpolicilla” then it would be a better quality. However, I love this wine because it reminds me of late night dinners with my brother Tripp and sis-in-law, Michele, in Florence, Italy.
A few of the artists on my Pandora playlist: Actually, I’m listening to the rain hit our metal roof.
So I started this painting before Eric’s birthday but had to always find a way to hide this thing whenever I heard the door open. It is quite large and the canvas is not very light when you have to lift it 50 times a day!
I did a couple paintings a few years back that I intended to sell but he asked if he could keep them since he loved the yellow shades. So I knew this painting needed its main color to be yellow.
The next images are some close-ups of the same painting…
Above image shows 50 squares precisely placed and have significance for Eric. Some of these little “chips” are cut out from pieces I created in college! This section actually took the longest I’d say in how they were arranged. I was continuously moving them around and shifting order, etc.
I started from the left and also had what I wanted on the right, so those were pasted down first. The middle took some thought and planning. But when something worked, I would paste it down before it got dislodged. Anyways, these squares developed the title of Eric’s painting “Marker 50”
And while photographing this painting…
It was apparent Jaxson (who I’ve now nicknamed “the beast”) was becoming jealous that I was at his level and paying no attention to him. So he came right up to the camera and gave it a nudge to let me know “Hey, I’m here!”
If anyone would like to commission a painting similar to this that has meaning to them or for someone else, just drop me an email!
Have a great evening!
Glad you put Eric’s beautiful painting on your blog. Now I can study it more closely.
