This Is Not Good.

On our way back home from St. Louis, we decided to do some camping in the mountains of Tennessee. So far it’s been great. Up until 5 o’clock or so this evening. All of a sudden, we heard thunder and it started to get dark. And then strong winds and down came the rain. And up in the air went a whole corner of the large tarp we just finished covering the tent with.

I ran out to grab the end that flew up and Eric was on the other side tying down the edges and as I pulled the tarp down, yup, you guessed it, I got drenched with all the rain that collected at the top and was now funneling down on top of me. I grabbed a bungee cord and tied the corner down as quick as I could as the wind really picked up. Next, the snapping sound of branches and with that, I hid under the table inside our tent. Yes, that’s what I did while Eric was still out in the storm tying back more of the tarp that was catching the wind. I do not like storms when there’s no access to a basement!

Then I heard him yell outside the tent that a huge branch just missed us! Without delay, I ran to our vehicle for more secure shelter. To show the severity of my fear, I abandoned my computer back in that tent. I don’t go anywhere without my laptop! (I know, lame. But as a freelancer, my whole career is on that laptop!)

As I cleared the fog from the windshield, I could see Eric, in his red camping rain tent still hard at work. After spending two hours in the car, we inspected the inside of the tent which was nice and dry. I guess a football field-sized tarp covering your entire tent does the trick.

For those who think I’m a terrible spouse for leaving Eric in the storm without a thought — when I made it to the vehicle and after I took this picture, I climbed in the back and found Eric a nice dry shirt to put on when he joined me in the car. See, I’m not all that bad!

    1. HaHa Sharon!! After having to pack up the tent, our belongings and haul them down a rocky, muddy path in the pouring rain this morning, I’m starting to think our love of camping is seriously misguided!
