It Was Hard to Leave

We had to leave for New England today since Eric has two classes, one in Connecticut and the other in New Hampshire. Then we are on to Maine. Now don’t get me (or us) wrong — we are looking forward to visiting with our parents and seeing our new nephew Andrew and visiting our friends Karen and Eric, gearing up for the second annual Penny Pinching Pickers (stay tuned.)

But I put emphasis on the “had” since we were lagging all morning and early afternoon. We didn’t hit the road until a pitiful 4 o’clock! That’schance-sad-to-leave-tennessee almost evening! There definitely was some mental stalling on our parts happening.

Nonetheless, we eventually got going and this pic I snapped of Chance with my phone sums it up perfectly on how we felt about it… looking out the window, with our head resting solemnly (except for Eric since he was driving but he did do his share of sulking as well), wishing we were back home, running in the field and waiting for our stray cow Betty-Sue to make an appearance.

Oh the whining that was going on. Periodically throughout the evening, while cruising north on the highway, we both were looking at my phone checking in on our property, wanting to be there (actually, mainly me investigating and conveying to Eric what I was looking at). Because we travel so much, we needed to invest in a good alarm and property surveillance system to ease our minds. It is so nice to check in and make sure there’s not a tree spread across our roof or a burst pipe flooding our studio.

However, today, we were not utilizing this invaluable home-spying tool for what it was intended. Instead, we were changing the channels on our system simply to moon over our living room, pining that we were sitting on the couch with a glass of wine and then to the kitchen admiring the new breakfast bar Eric built. We even scanned over to the little barn wondering how our lawn tractor was doing.

I know… we are total geeks. We unaffectedly cannot help it.

  1. Apparently you guys should have moved a loooooong time ago!!! It’s so sad that you have to come back and visit crappy old New England so soon. No worries, we’ll be sure to slow down the pace for you guys and we’ll try to be super friendly in the long lines at Wal-Mart too!! Also, we’ll try to keep the murders, drug dealing and gang banging to a minimum while your here. Unfortunately the massive homeless population will be out in full force with it being summer and all, but hopefully that will not ruin your penny pinching picker competition. Can’t wait to see you, have a safe trip!

    1. Okay Okay. We will start writing things we DON’T like about Tennessee real soon okay? But I think us not wanting to leave has more to do with our home and less about the geography. This is the first home we bought together. When we got married, I didn’t want to live in his house so we compromised… he moved into my little house!
