Christmas Eve Lunar Halo

I was painting early evening today in my studio when Mr. Basketmaker came inside and said “grab your camera and get out here.”

That’s exactly what I did. And as I looked up towards the sky, I saw a lunar halo around the moon. I did try to grab some pics before the ‘halo’ broke apart… christmas-eve-lunar-halo

However the quality was not so good and not having a wide angle lens meant I couldn’t capture the entire image! So the moon gets cropped out. But I was able to get the detailed ‘halo’ in the shot.

Since I didn’t want to waste the time it took to set up the camera on the tripod, I stepped back into the driveway and got a pic of the house and all the lights Mr. Basketmaker went a little crazy with. I like the ‘halo’ effect I got on Chance! Totally unplanned…

And there’s Eric’s silhouette heading back into his workshop to continue making a “floating frame” for a 40 x 40 painting I finished.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

  1. I think you got a really good shot of the halo. You both are so very talented and blessed! Have a wonderful Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

  2. I wish we were able to get the shot when I first saw it. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. It looked like a perfect hole in the sky with the moon and sky inside the halo being the only thing visible to the eye. The only thing missing was Ole Saint Nick sleigh flying by. Merry Christmas everyone!
