Five Questions Friday: Another visit to Nantucket

Okay – I know I’ve been a little absent again. So much happened and too much to do. But I hope to share it soon. But today is Friday which means I get to ask Mr. Basketmaker five questions and he has to answer them. And he’s in a great mood because we are back on Nantucket for the week.

Q: Was it fun having your mother come to Nantucket for a few days?
Eric:
Yes it was and finally, I might add, after inviting her all these years. I think she had a good time too. She met some fun sisters from California and Florida staying at her B&B and we got to know them and we all went out to dinner at the Brotherhood of Thieves on her last night. That was much fun.
Yes, I have a soft spot for the Brotherhood since that was the first restaurant we went to after arriving on Nantucket for the first time… five years ago I think?

Q: I don’t know about you, but is it a little weird staying in a place where they give walking tours once a day between 2 and 3 pm? And nobody was allowed upstairs but we were up here listening? I started to feel very grateful at that moment.
Eric: I know. This is our fifth year at the Macy House and they just started putting this home on the tour. I am not sure I like sharing the house with the common folk, LOL. It was funny to be upstairs listening in on the tour about how the upstairs is off limits because its for the distinguished guests of the Nantucket Historical Association, like special speakers and lecturers. But I didn’t hear the guide say guest basket makers though.
Well, you are one of the ‘distinguished’ ones I guess…

Q: How did you know who I just met while I was eating lunch downstairs AND is staying across the hall from us when I texted you during your workshop today?
Eric: Because you said he had a guitar and Mary from the NHA announced in the workshop that there was a last minute concert with Peter Yarrow this Sunday at the museum.
For those who say that name rings a bell… Peter Yarrow was part of the band Peter, Paul and Mary. Remember them? I grew up with their music playing on my mother’s huge record player cabinet.

Q: Don’t you think it’s funny that the other new person in the Macy House, who happens to be from England, came down and said that she is locked out of the bathroom that she is sharing with Peter? I mean that’s sort of funny…
Eric:
Ya, I know.  It’s easy to do. In these old houses on Nantucket, you often have to share bathrooms between two rooms. It’s easy to forget to unlatch the hook on the other door when you leave. We have been there and done that. Well, it was you that forgot to unlatch.
I know but imagine having to go to someone like Peter Y. and say “Excuse me, but you have locked me out of my bathroom!”

Q: What aggravated you this week?
Eric: Nantucket Scooter drivers. They rent these scooters and barely know how to keep them upright. A couple of them cut us off. And some we were simply walking on the sidewalk!!

  1. Enjoy Nantucket double since I’m not going to make it there this year! We need to coordinate to go while you and Eric are there. Wouldn’t that be fun?
