Some snaps from our day at a mid-Tennessee small town craft fair…

On Saturday, Mr. Basketmaker and I headed an hour southwest to a little town called Bell Buckle. They had two craft fairs going on, one called Main Street Craft Fair and the other the Webb School Craft Fair. We have never been and thought it would be a fun outing before Eric leaves for Michigan.

When we were approximately 2 miles away from downtown, traffic was single lane and all backed up. All these people are going to the fair? I guess it’s not as tiny as we thought. And it wasn’t. It was huge and literally seemed to take over all the real estate of this tiny town. Tents were lining the main road leading into town and then spilling into the other craft fair. Not sure where the separation was between the two—they sort of morphed into each other. There were hundreds of tents down many side streets and around corners and in people’s yards and even more in a large field… it was crazy! And at times, for me, overwhelming with the sea of people all around.

Things that caught my attention…

When at a small southern country fair… you have to get the funnel cake. Not really sure why it’s called that. Up north I am used to fried dough which I like much better. But the ‘cake’ was pretty good (and filling…)

Love the little mobile stores in little campers or set up in a box truck like photo below. And yes, the photo next to the church birdhouse below are two DOG Carriages… specifically for dogs. I heard that people actually use these and finally saw it in person. A mobile dog bed complete with water and treats…

I wanted that tiny cow picture next to the up-cycled dog and pig photo, but not in the budget… will have to get around to painting one for myself…At one booth, look at how she displayed all her jewelry. I don’t think I’ve seen that before. It was definitely an attention grabber… (shoutout to Karen… how many boxes of old photos you got?)
It was a fun southern fair, complete with a long train running through. And for anyone wondering, I bought myself a hand-knitted alpaca wool sweater. Took me about 30 minutes to decide which color to get.

  1. Glad you had a good time, it is an interesting little town. We’ve had lunch at the restuarant, picked up moon pies and did some shopping a few times but not during Fair times.

  2. Great post. However, two points. One, you thought it was disturbing someone was selling vintage jewelry using their old photos as the back drop. Two, the crowds! it was insanely crowded.

    1. I found it disturbing in that I wouldn’t want my photo used like this 100 years from now! That’s what I found creepy.
