Eric’s Legacy Sewing Basket

Want to see what Eric did over Summer Vacation??

Ah, kidding. Everyone knows Mr. Basketmaker doesn’t get vacations—he’s simply not into vacations. I’m still working on changing that.

Anyway, Eric has lots of new baskets he’s been working on but this is his largest project of the bunch… the Legacy Sewing Basket.

What’s cool about this basket is that it was a collaboration started a year ago with student and art teacher Amy Janicki. Below is how it started… a sketch and details being thought out…

At the last workshop here in Eric’s studio, Amy was finally able to make this basket. They both signed their collaborative sketch.

I have to add that Amy’s basket was with injuries… Eric warned how hard the weaving is on your hands and she said she was “ready for the challenge.” By the end of the week, she had a few bandaids on those hands of hers. But I’m sure it made the completion of this basket much more gratifying.

Basket is made from hand-pounded Black Ash with Cherry rims, handles and lid. The ear handles are Black Ash sandwiched between two pieces of Cherry.

    1. It can only be taught here, in Tennessee, at Eric’s workshop because of the intensity AND all the parts needing to fit together. So the lid will be custom made on the spot once you have woven and rimmed it.
