Make Someone Laugh…

I’m not a news junkie, but I regularly keep myself informed. However, over the last two weeks, I had to turn it off for my own health and wellness. Trying to be creative and create “good” things, doesn’t happen when it appears that chaos is happening all around you. It just doesn’t work.

And in addition to not watching the news, I had to severely cut back my television watching as well since even during mindless programming, I was still being infiltrated via the never-ending pandemic-related commercials.

My other favorite thing to do is reading. However, I’ve been spending seven days a week for the last month with my eyes focused on a computer screen. Working every day on design-stuff and website building (which I normally don’t do at all), I needed to take off my glasses and give my eyes a break.

So I will share with you what tied me up for well over an hour the other night while relaxing in bed. Actually, it’s more like a confession, because I turned on the tv only to hack into my cousin’s Netflix account (she’s such an open book, it was pretty easy). Now, it’s not really a straight “hack.” When her and her husband came to visit us, she logged onto her Netflix account on our guest room tv. So, it was pretty easy when you had majority of the info already loaded.

Why did I want to do this? Because I like to amuse my cousin Kerryn on a daily basis which is hard because she’s way more funny than me. So I got into her account and changed her “viewer” settings. I was cracking myself up for well over an hour (I’m a simpleton and easily amused at the silliest of things).

So she had some pretty boring icons. I wish I took a photo before I started. But here’s what I ended up with…

The red-head is my cousin and her list. She’s a natural red-head. And the “You’re so pretty!” line is because every time someone says something dumb, she will say “You’re so pretty!” Needless to say, she probably says it to me several times a week. So I have to get her back.

I make one for me. Cute pink-haired girl of course. Then I create one for her mom, my aunt, who is Gail. I went through so many icons and thought this was the funniest. I’m nervous because I chose her icon to be a monkey, but I go for it. I know she will still love me. (Shout out to my Auntie Gail… I was going for pure entertainment here. I did try to find a more appropriate icon… but nothing with the loveliness and grace such as yourself was portrayed. So monkey it was.)

Then to the (I know it’s hard to read) the “We’re Raunchy!” square. I did a search for everything with the tag S-E-X and added it to the list. But then I started to think, my aunt is going to go on here. I don’t want her to think it’s Me & Eric’s account or something. So I quickly changed that to “K & P’s List”, which is my cuz and her husband’s initials.

Of course I keep the KIDS category for her nieces, nephews and grandchildren pretty tame. So about after an hour and a half going through all the various icons I could pick from and laughing out loud while sitting in my bed, scrolling on the TV, I was done. Shut off the TV and went to bed laughing, wishing I could see her face when she opened up her Netflix.

And I think I did my job because she logged on probably at the most appropriate time, where she needed a laugh. She has a stressful job with tons of responsibility. And she works really hard—so hard that she rarely has time to take a break to eat. But the next day, she brought her lunch to her desk, and decided to put on something mindless in the background during her break. I receive this picture from her…

She always responds with “Really?” when she doesn’t want to admit that I did or said something to make her laugh. So I know she had a chuckle.

So during this time, try to make someone laugh. When it’s difficult, we all need to feel some kind of happiness, and if we can laugh for even a few seconds, it can really change your outlook.

And by the way, I asked my cousin if her mom was insulted I made her a monkey. And she said, “Are you kidding? The first thing she said was ‘Cool! I have my own square!'”

I close with saying “bye” to any chance of me watching stuff on her Netflix. I’m sure her account will be locked up super tight now.
