From one class to the next…

Last week, Eric decided it’s time to do his ‘future project’ of removing the big cast iron stove and the stone hearth, now instead of waiting for the winter.

After the last class, poor Michelle and Debbie were trapped against this back stove area, where Eric also stored Ash materials and the Photo Booth.

So before I even rolled out of bed, he already removed the heavy cast iron stove and everything else stacked in this corner…

Next it was sledge hammer time…

I periodically went in to check on the progress and it was so much work. But at the start, Eric was more pumped about discovering whether this was built on top of the old wood floor.

And then he finally got there…

When he was able to remove a good portion of the rocks and concrete, he was able to lift up the board and see, yes, it was a “box” built over the original wood floor. He was relieved. But now, it was even more heavy work to remove all of this monstrocity…

He actually said the hardest part of this whole job, that took all day, was removing the back portion of the original “platform” the prior owners built…

But he was able to get it all removed, add a new ‘border’ under the wall, and paint the rocks with a white wash and now the space is wide open. So everyone can move freely around the one table and sit spaced apart and a corner for anyone who wants to stand up while weaving…

And another area for a large table and a few more students on the other side of the room…

Of course, there’s plenty of other areas to move to. Some go over to the kitchen counter, or take a corner at Eric’s work bench or some move onto the outdoor porch to sand and weave.

I love the white rock wall since it adds to the quirkiness of Eric’s basket workshop. Now that that’s already crossed off the “to do” list over the winter, I need to add something else… maybe a little loft space I’ve been wanting off of my studio???
