Saturday Night Art Walk: Mom

In honor of Mother’s Day tomorrow, tonight’s little art walk’s theme is MOM.

I’ve got a little glass of Red Zin and tonight there’s no music in the background. Instead, “Renovation Realities” is on, but not really watching.

So let’s start with a quote:

“Youth fades; love droops, the leaves of friendship fall; A mother’s secret hope outlives them all,” ~ by Oliver Wendell Holmes

First image…

…a good ‘ole “MOM” tattoo.

How about this nature-inspired sculpture:

Titled “Mother Nature Illusion” by Olga Ziemska.

Next is an abstract multi-media painting titled “Mother Earth” and found at www.cianellistudios.com.

And another “mother nature” inspired painting is by the artist David Lee Thompson, and titled, simply enough, “Mother Nature in Abstract.”

Next is a basketry interpretation…

Titled “Peaceful Mother Earth” by Tanioka Aiko. And you know, it does exude peacefulness, at least to me.

Okay, now for the cuteness factor:

I don’t know about you but I think the Meerkat Mama is much cuter than her cub!

Next is a Giclee art print titled “My Boy” by Kat Hannah (she sells her illustrations/prints on etsy.com)

I love the textures she creates in her illustrations. So beautiful they could easily stand alone and still be provocative.

Next is from the Pueblo pottery world:  “Cochiti Singing Mother” by Ada Suina

And finally, one of my favorites is from the American Folk Art Museum…

This piece is crayon on wood, titled “Hens and Chicks with Rooster”, by Artist Leroy Person (1907-1985). I absolutely love it. Especially the textures and how all the Hens and Chicks are together but the Rooster is on it’s own platform, yet all elements are interacting fluidly, as if it’s one piece.

With that, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! And the furry pet moms, like me, as well.

  2. Feeling blessed this morning to be both a mother AND a daughter! And to still being a wife. Happy Mother’s Day!
