Haven’t done my ‘art walk’ in so long! Tonight’s theme is my brother and sis-in-law’s house! While visiting their home over Thanksgiving, I snapped some “fun” pics they have sprinkled throughout. It’s kid art and some ‘folksy’ stuff. One of the best things about traveling with Mr. Basketmaker is seeing what kind of art people surround themselves with.
I’m listening to holiday music — a classic mix with Frank Sinatra, The Ronnettes, Nat King Cole and even some Elvis.
I’m drinking an “old fashioned” that Mr. Basketmaker made me from the bottle of Whiskey my cousin and her husband gave us as a gift. (Thanks Paul & Kerryn! And for the bottle of wine too!)
I’ll start with my nephew Sam who lives outside of Chicago. He painted this in 2010 when he was 8 or 9, I think. I don’t believe he titled it but it looks like birds in flight to me. It’s behind glass and framed, hanging in their living room.
Next up is Sam’s younger brother Ben. He drew my sis-in-law, Michele, walking her dog Jolene. This is hung next to where the dog sleeps…
One of my favorite pieces of art in their house (other than Eric’s basket of course) is this teenie-tiny little painting on a wood block that sits in their kitchen window sill…
On the bottom it is signed “Shanon Tremoureth 1999”
Another favorite of mine is this tiny print of an encaustic by Taleen Batalian, titled ‘Red Bird 2’.
This next pic is a shot of their tiny magnet collection which hangs on the side of their stainless fridge. I always check them out to see if they got any new ones…
Of course I cannot skip my youngest nephew and future budding artist! He’s almost three and is already showing composition skills!
Next up is a tiny little cross-stitch that I made in 1999. Yes, I fell into that 90’s cross-stitching craze… briefly…
Michele turned it into a cute little pillow and it sits on the guest bed upstairs. Puts a smile on my face every time I see it.
Now I’m not the only one who caught this short-lived cross-stitch bug… below is one from Michele herself!
I love how she put the name ‘TALBOT’ on the cider wagon. I can’t verify this but it looks like the work of folk artist Charles Wysocki.
Have a good night everyone and enjoy the holidays!
Love your art walks!
