A Good ‘Ole Southern County Fair

We have lived in Tennessee about 4 months now and we both were looking forward to going to the Warren County Fair. We pass by the fairgrounds when we take the shortcut into town. But it’s only open for 10 days in September. So we went yesterday, the 2nd to last day of the fair.

And I have to say, a southern county fair is very interesting. We saw things we’ve never seen before. Like who would’ve thought there are so many different varieties of chickens? Rows and rows and rows of them. (Now I’m more of a city girl… I sort of don’t know the difference between a rooster, a chicken and a hen… so I apologize ahead of time for my ignorance. But I’m thinking several of these are roosters, right?)

I only had my phone with me to take pictures and these animals do not stay still! So most of them were too blurry to show but here’s some. I wish the black-and-white patterned chicken came out better. Her feathers were gorgeous. The image I have does not show the intricate detail.

And there were some things we did expect like all the fried foods (Eric had BBQ Pork and I had the Catfish plate), a collection of John Deere tractors, a horse competition and a couple participating in the fun log sawing competition. That girl was stronger than the guy I think! He kept bending the saw and getting it stuck. She really had to yank it hard to get it unstuck.

And finally, in the nursery, we came across the plant that won first place. But from the looks of it, I think it was in better shape at the beginning of the fair! Poor, sad plant. You would think that winning a first place prize, you would be pampered with some well-needed H2O!
